In Its 18th Year, Atlanta Jewish Film Festival Celebrates International Cinema
The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival begins on January 24. This year marks the 18th anniversary of the event, which explores many aspects of Jewish culture and history in a global context.
AJFF Executive Director Kenny Blank and Gabe Wardell, Chair of Film Evaluation, joined Lois Reitzes on “City Lights” to preview this year’s festival.
Blank said that the AJFF, more than anything else, is “a festival of great international cinema” with more than 20 countries represented among the more than 70 films that will be screened.
This year’s opening night film is “Sammy Davis, Jr: I’ve Gotta Be Me,” a documentary about the both celebrated and maligned African-American entertainer who converted to Judaism after a near-fatal car accident. Wardell said that the opening night film sets a tone that signals that this is “a film festival for the whole community.”
The 2018 Atlanta Jewish Film Festival runs Jan. 24 through Feb. 15 at theatres and venues across metro Atlanta.
