Wait to Book Christmas Airfare and You'll Pay the Procrastination Penalty
By Jim Burress
If you’re waiting on a good deal before booking an airline ticket for Christmas -- don’t.
That’s the word from FareCompare.com.
The website's CEO, Rick Seaney expects average Christmas-week airfares to go up as much as $10 each day for the next week or so.
And no matter what, FareCompare says book before Dec. 18th.
On the 19th, Seany believes tickets prices will jump between 30 and 70%.
While it’s unlikely airlines will discount any open seats for Christmas week, travelers can often find cheaper fares by flying on Christmas and New Year’s Days.
And if you’re willing to make a connection, the inconvenience can sometimes save you between 10-20% compared to a non-stop flight.
