All Clear: DeKalb County Lifts Boil Water Advisory

DeKalb County lifted a boil water advisory Monday night that had been in place since Saturday afternoon. In a news release, the county said, “DeKalb residents countywide can resume normal use of water.”

The release said DeKalb County, working with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, tested more than 100 water samples collected Friday through Sunday and found no water quality issues.

The boil water advisory was the latest challenge for DeKalb County stemming from the accidental break of a water main late Thursday by a county employee. The main is located near the intersection of Henderson Mill and Evans roads, but customers countywide experienced problems for days ranging from dirty water to no water service at all. During the repair process, the county had to bring the water pressure down several times.

Perhaps hardest hit was downtown Decatur, which had scheduled an event featuring a giant water slide Saturday. Not only did the event have to be cut short because of low water pressure, several area businesses had to close early or reduce service on a day when the downtown area was expecting up to 6,000 visitors for the event.
