When “Candide” premiered in 1956, the credits read like a who’s who of American wit and talent.

Playwright Lillian Hellman joined Leonard Bernstein to adapt Voltaire’s story for a musical; poet Richard Wilbur wrote the lyrics, and Dorothy Parker also added a few words.

Here in Atlanta, we have our own group of high-wattage intellects coming together for the Alliance Theatre and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s production of “Candide.”

On “City Lights,” Lois Reitzes spoke with Alliance artistic director Susan Booth and Evans Mirageas, the ASO’s vice president of artistic planning, about the joint production.

“Candide” is on stage now through May 20.
