WABE Archived Stories - Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need to provide an email for unlimited access to WABE.org’s archived stories?
Keeping WABE an indispensable source of news and information in Atlanta depends on our ability to reach readers like you. You may have recently noticed that older stories on WABE.org now require you to subscribe to our daily newsletter, in order to access the full article or play segment audio.
While our stories are accessed by hundreds of thousands of visitors every month, a majority of users on WABE.org are new to the site. Email addresses allow us to reach out in a way we couldn’t before, and ensure our users are kept up-to-date on the latest stories that matter most to them, their community, and beyond.
Our aim is to be as transparent as possible about our initiatives, so here are some FAQs to help you understand our goals:

- What are you going to do with my email address?
Once you’ve provided an email address, you’ll receive a message confirming your unlimited access to all archived stories on WABE.org.
From there, we’ll be following up with our free newsletter featuring the day’s most important stories. We’ll also be able to let you know about upcoming WABE events, membership opportunities, giveaways, programming changes, exclusive benefits and more. You can manage your subscription preferences through the newsletter emails themselves.
We will never sell your data to third parties or share your information with outside organizations.
- Do I have to provide my email to access every story on WABE.org?
No, this is not a paywall. Users reading more recent stories published within the last month, or prioritized ongoing coverage will never see content being restricted in this way. Once you’ve submitted your email to unlock a story, all content on WABE.org will be accessible over the browser on your device.
- I already gave my email address for unlimited access. Why am I submitting again?
This feature is dependent on cookies stored in your browser. If you access WABE.org using a different device or browser, clear your browser cache, or refresh your history frequently, there’s a chance you may be prompted to submit your email a second time.
Whether you’ve unsubscribed before or already receive our newsletters, your subscription status will remain unchanged. We’ve released this feature to improve how we’re servicing your preferences for local news, so please let us know if you’re experiencing issues.
Should you find access continues to be limited after you’ve submitted an email multiple times, reach out to us. Your feedback helps us build better news products.
- I’m a newsletter subscriber (or WABE Member) and already get emails from WABE. Why am I being asked for my email address?
If you have yet to open up a link to WABE.org on your device from one of our emails, our site doesn’t recognize whether we can already reach out to you over that address (Check your inbox, there’s great stuff in there!). Submitting an email address where you’ve already heard from us won’t double-up your messages from WABE .
Whether you’re a WABE member, existing newsletter subscriber or have unsubscribed in the past, your status will remain unchanged.
- What if I don’t want to give you my email address?
Don’t worry, you can still access all of WABE’s most recent stories (published within the last month) and other prioritized ongoing coverage with no restrictions. Check out our Homepage, or use the Menu Bar to start browsing through our Latest News.
Our intention behind walling our archived stories is to expand our ability to reach new users and improve the public service driving our coverage. If your inbox has had enough, there’s a link to manage your contact preferences in the unlimited access confirmation email.
- If I change my mind, how do I get unlimited access?
Simply sign up for the newsletter here. The cookie required for unlimited access will also be enabled on this device and browser.
