Atlanta Band Lois Righteous Meets Lois Reitzes

“City Lights” host Lois Reitzes has been bestowed a great honor. She has been immortalized in a band name: Lois Righteous.

“We all have listened to Lois forever, as long as we can remember,” said Whitney Hansen, one of the three band members. “And from what we know about her, she’s such a strong, powerful woman that won’t back down.”

“City Lights” discovered Lois Righteous when band member Beth Cunningham asked Reitzes for autographed photos of her over the holidays. We then invited them to perform a few of their songs in studio.

The band comes up with song titles first before writing the song. Some of those titles include “Regular Scum,” “Kill Your Masters,” “The Hand That Wounds,” “Spit Whip” and “Sexual Pie Party.”

While the Riot grrrl ethos of Lois Righteous might seem like a far cry from the classical music curated by Lois Reitzes, it’s a deep love of music that the two Lois’ share.

“[Lois Reitzes] is also such an advocate for the arts. And she’s so passionate for the arts and music, in particular,” said third band member Lisa Highfill. She added that their band name “just seemed like, of course, this makes sense.”

You can listen and see the songs they performed at WABE in the video above and the sound clips below:
