The Atlanta City Council plans to study the feasibility of creating a new Department of Safety and Wellness. The Department would field “non-emergency” calls.

Atlanta City Councilmember Antonio Brown introduced the legislation proposing the creation of the new department.

He joined “Closer Look” host Rose Scott on Monday’s edition of the program for a conversation about why he chose to propose this new legislation, which received unanimous approval from the City Council last week.

Councilmember Brown said the goal is to, ultimately, encourage more trust between law enforcement and community members.
