This weekend, children can enjoy story time with their parents and with a drag queen. The queen in question is Edie Cheezburger. Among her many performing accomplishment is creating “The Other Show,” a weekly cabaret show at the Jungle.

Cheezburger will be reading four books to children at Posman Books. Her selections include “The Watermelon Seed,” “Oh, the Places You’ll Go,” “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” and “The Day the Crayons Quit.”

“The stories are super silly. ‘Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus’ and ‘The Watermelon Seed’ … those two play on the absurdist part of my humor. The other two speak to the possibilities of inclusion and diversity,” Cheezburger said.

She said it is rare for drag queens to appear in spaces beyond bars, clubs and performance venues, and this is the first time that she has heard of an event with a drag queen reading stories to children. While there are all-ages drag shows in the Atlanta area, this will be a new opportunity to reach a general audience.

“I think it’s such a great thing for kids to be inquisitive about people who are different,” Cheezburger said.

Story time with Edie Cheezburger is this Saturday at 3 p.m. at Posman Books. The event is encouraged for children 4 years old and up.
