Closer Look
- Coffee Conversation at Ke’Nekt Cooperative. The focus is on community-based literacy initiatives. Also, in honor of Black History Month, there will be live readings of excerpts from children’s books by Black authors. (Thursday, 2/27)
City Lights
- Kicking off the month with Lois’s interview with Victoria Christopher Murray about her book, “Harlem Rhapsody” and interview with Ruben Studdard about his upcoming performance at the Roswell Roots Festival (a festival celebrating Black History and Culture) – (Monday, 2/3)
- Lois’s interview with Ibi Owolabi and Jocelyn Bioh about “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding.” The play welcomes you into Jaja’s bustling hair braiding salon in Harlem where every day, a lively and eclectic group of West African immigrant hair braiders create masterpieces on the heads of neighborhood women. (Tuesday, 2/4)
- Playwright and Pulitzer Prize-finalist Zora Howard discusses her play “Bust,” an “interrogation of what it costs to be Black and free.” (Monday, 2/10)
- Interview with Chris Aluka Berry about the book “Affrilachia: Testimonies” (The book and the exhibition feature the works of Chris Aluka Berry’s intimate photographs that highlight the experiences of people of color in Appalachia.) – (Wednesday, 2/12)
- 2/18/25 – Lois will be in conversation with American singer, songwriter, pianist and podcaster, Avery Sunshine. The Washington Post described her music as “a radiant brand of soul,” and some of her hits include, “Blackity Black,” “All I Need,” and “Do it Afraid.” (Tuesday, 2/18)
