Atlanta Mayor Opposes ‘Religious Freedom’ Bill

Indiana’s governor said today the passage of their Religious Freedom Restoration Act, or RFRA, is a threat to the state’s reputation and economy, and he’s now working to get clarifying language added to the law.

Critics say the law would allow businesses to deny service to lesbian and gay customers if doing so would offend their religious beliefs.

There’s a similar bill sitting in the Georgia House. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says he’s not worried.

“I think that Georgia’s going to come out on the right side of that issue, which is to oppose that bill, but I don’t believe it’s going to pass,” Reed says.

A special hearing on the legislation scheduled for Monday was abruptly canceled this weekend.
