You may see a larger police presence in your social media feeds soon.

Police are not trying to monitor your Facebook page, but they are trying to reach out to you.

Videos made of police officers are part of a new campaign from the Atlanta Police Department called “Why I Wear the Badge.”

APD Sgt. Warren Pickard, a public affairs officer, said the department deliberated carefully before deciding exactly how to reach out to the community.

“Policing in the United States has completely changed,” Pickard said. “And to be successful in what we do as police officers, it is incumbent that we have a good relationship with the community. And we need to explore and find new ways to build new relationships. And I think this platform is one step in that direction.”

The officers will explain why they decided to become a part of law enforcement in video posts on Facebook and Twitter. Pickard said about 20 officers have volunteered to be in the videos so far. The department will start posting the messages next month.
