Vernal & Sere Theatre is presenting their take on the story of Medea — the former princess who takes vengeance on her husband by killing his new wife as well as her own children. They’re calling the show “Medea Unborn.”

The show is in performance at the Robert Mello Studio in Doraville and runs through July 14.

In this production, Medea is still pregnant with her former husband Jason’s two children. In this not-insignificant shift in the story’s timeline, the show asks “does that change things for you?”

“This woman over and over throughout time has been depicted in a way that is very black and white,” says Erin Boswell, the actor playing Medea. “We’re working with the ‘myth’ Medea and the ‘mother’ Medea, and we really wanted to start to illuminate those places in between.”
