Atlanta Writer Wants To Inspire Artists With Her Novel

Author Joshilyn Jackson sent an excerpt from the novel she’s writing to several area artists to see how they would respond using their own art.

Atlanta author Joshilyn Jackson has an unusual Christmas gift request.

In a previous “Writer to Reader,” she shared how she has been inspired by other art forms which have influenced her own writing. Just last week , she discussed the story within a story that’s taken the form of a graphic novel within her current work-in-progress, “Origin Story.”

On this week’s “Writer to Reader” for “City Lights,” Jackson reads an excerpt from her novel’s current draft and explains how she is hoping to use it to inspire the artwork of several people she sent it to.

“Please don’t buy me anything for Christmas. I have a very small house and too much stuff as it is. What I really want is a little bit of your time,” Jackson requested in a letter she sent along with the excerpt. “What I really want is to see [the characters] through your eyes when you read it.”

Plus, Jackson has a reading suggestion for those uninitiated in the world of comic books and graphic novels, Marjane Satrapi’s “Persepolis.”
