Atlanta’s Silent Terror

Ed Hall recently spoke with his friend and former colleague Vern Smith. The two men worked for Newsweek here in Atlanta where Vern was the bureau chief in the late 1970s.

During this time, Vern reported on one of the darkest periods of the city’s history. African American children from lower-income communities were beginning to vanish. These cases would terrorize the city for years to come.
