Atlanta’s Synchronicity Theatre Puts A New Spin On Fantasy Classic, ‘The Hobbit’

“The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien is an undisputed classic of the fantasy genre.

The book – first published in 1937 – has been translated into more than 50 languages and has sold well over 100 million copies.

Atlanta’s Synchronicity Theatre is putting a new spin on the old tale, with a reimagining of Tolkien’s epic adventure.

In this version, the protagonist, Bilbo Baggins, is a woman.

Director Jake Guinn and Brooke Owens, who plays Bilbo, spoke with “City Lights” producer Ryan McFadin last week. Guinn began by explaining where he got the idea for a steampunk hobbit.

“The Hobbit” is onstage at Synchronicity Theatre through Feb. 23rd.
