Atlanta’s True Colors Theatre Company Solves The ‘Proof’

One Atlanta theater company is putting a Pulitzer winner on stage.

In 2001, “Proof,” written by playwright by David Auburn, won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama as well as the Tony Award for Best Drama. A new production by Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company opens Tuesday at Southwest Fulton Arts Center.

The story centers largely around a young woman, Catherine, who acts as caretaker to her unstable but renowned mathematician father. The show addresses themes of the bonds between fathers and daughters, the power of love, and the nature of genius.

“[Mathematics] is an opportunity to dig into the humanity of these people,” director Tess Malis Kincaid tells “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes, “underneath the brilliance.”

“The beauty behind mathematics is very similar to the beauty behind acting, music, art … ” says Fedna Jacquet, who plays Catherine in this production. “You’re always trying to find the most elegant way to something.”

“Proof” opens at the Southwest Fulton Arts Center on Oct. 25 and runs through Nov. 20.
