Beer Battle Brewing Again In Ga. Legislature

The battle over beer sales in Georgia is back before the state legislature this year.

Republican state Rep. Ron Stephens is behind the bill. He represents Savannah, a city that is home to a number of craft breweries.

“The two biggest things [are]: be able to serve food, cater food, at the tours and be able to tell the patron where they can buy their product when they leave and where it’s available,” Stephens said.

That could help brewers, who have said they should be able to sell more beer directly to customers who visit. Stephens’ bill would at least give the breweries another way to make money.

Distributors and wholesalers have been strongly opposed to opening up sales for breweries. Their lobby will likely have something to say about this latest proposal.
