5 Ways To Celebrate Earth Day In Atlanta

Earth Day is April 22. The worldwide holiday is not only a chance for people to celebrate our planet but, as the Earth Day Network points out, to show their support for environmental policies as well.

Atlanta has some educational activities planned for families during Earth Day weekend. Check out the list below for information on artist markets, science demos, nature walks and other educational opportunities.

Earth Day Marketplace

Where: Atlantic Station

When: April 21, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

What: Vendors will be selling “up-cycled” and eco-friendly products at the Atlantic Station.

Georgia Tech Earth Day Festival

Where: Tech Walkway on Georgia Tech’s Campus

When: April 20, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

What: There will be free popcorn, a clothing swap, an office supply exchange and more activities, according to the Facebook event page.

Childen’s Earth Day Celebration

Where: Children’s Museum of Atlanta

When: April 21, 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

What: Kids will learn about protecting planet Earth all day at the museum. Professor Labcoat, a science educator, will be hosting science demos. There will be stories, music and perhaps even a special visit from superhero, Michael Recycle.

Earth Day Celebration 

Where: Blue Heron Nature Preserve

When: April 21, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

What: A ton of activities are planned for this day. There will be an artist market, an owl pellet dissection, nature walks, yoga, performances and more.

Earth Day Aboretum Walk

Where: Historic Oakland Cemetery

When: April 22, 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

What: Oakland Cemetery has a collection of trees that range from oaks to flowering ornamentals, according to its website. The tour begins at the cemetery’s Bell Tower. Tickets are free for members, $12 for adults, $6 for students with an ID and $6 for senior citizens.
