Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day With Arís Co-Founder Kathleen McManus

You needn’t be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!

What began as a religious feast day in the 17th century has evolved into a variety of festivals all over the world, celebrating Irish culture with parades, food, music, dancing and a whole lot of green.

On “City Lights,” the St. Patrick’s tradition continues with poetry readings from Kathleen McManus. The Atlanta actor, director and educator is a founding member of Arís, Atlanta’s stage for Celtic culture. This year, McManus paired poems from William Butler Yeats and Eavan Boland. They were, in order of reading, “The Stare’s Nest By My Window” (Yeats), “Yeats in Civil War” (Boland), “Crazy Jane Talks With The Bishop (Yeats) and “Making Up” (Boland).

Kathleen McManus, along with the rest of Arís, will present their annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Manuel’s Tavern, Saturday evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
