Interview Highlights:

On why she wanted to work in the entertainment industry:

“When I first started doing hair, I knew that I didn’t just want to be a hairstylist in the salon. From the beginning, I had big dreams. I wanted to work on set; I wanted to own a salon; I wanted to be an educator. There were a lot things that I had on my bucket list.”

She continued, “The one thing about being a hairstylist for TV and film is that you have to come with your foundation. You have to come with the foundation of your craft. There’s so many levels, there’s so many tiers you have to go down in order to nail the look. To nail the look of the movie and of each character.”

Some of the wildest hairstyles she’s created on set:

“It had to be from ‘Hunger Games’ the Capitol scene. I was in the middle of my career and there were some of the most amazing hairstylist from L.A. and from Atlanta. Some of the best of the best came in, and when I went into that tent and saw all those ladies and men creating looks….it was just creativity to the fullest. It was some of the most creative things I’ve ever seen.”

On the title of her book, “Styling by Faith:”

“I came up with the title because it was exactly that. I started off one way and I ended up in a whole different area. Each step of the way, I knew that it was faith that got me from one level to the next level. I know that it was strictly by the faith of God that got me to where I am today.”

On some of her favorite celebrities she’s worked with:

“One of the nicest people that I worked with was Regina Hall. She is what you get. I was her hairstylist on ‘Shaft’ and she was the nicest individual. She was very professional, and she allowed you to do your job. Vanessa Hudgens, she was a nice person. I worked with her on ‘Bad Boys.’ Gabriel Union, I worked with her on ‘Almost Christmas.’ Luckily, for me, and I’m very thankful that I haven’t had too many horror stories.”
