Chicken Wings Remain Popular with Football Fans

The San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens are preparing for the Super Bowl…..and millions of Americans are preparing chicken wings for their Super Bowl parties.

The National Chicken Council says more than 1.2 billion chicken wings will be eaten this weekend.  That breaks down to four wings per every American, who is a non-vegetarian.

“The Super Bowl is always the one day of the year that if someone doesn’t normally eat chicken wings, they will break down and eat them.  Either they’re going to a party, so they pick up (some) or they are at a party where there’s wings.  They always seem to grab some,” says Carson Finney, the general manager of the Wing Factory, in Atlanta.

There are countless ways to prepare wings.

“Grilling them on a grill is great or baking them in your oven.  A lot of my buddies get them extra-crispy plain and they they’ll throw them back in the oven and then sauce them before they eat them,” says Finney.

Nearly 50 million Americans are ordering take-out food for the Super Bowl, according to the National Restaurant Association.

The majority of these sports fans—–well over 60%—–say wings are a “must-have” item for Sunday’s big game.
