Summerskill is a lesbian, and her theater company Artemis has tackled themes like LGBT asylum seekers and mental illness. But it’s comedy and songs that she is bringing to the United States in a show called “From Fairly Vocal to Varifocal.”

“I thought the show was all about being a middle-aged lesbian, but to be honest, a large proportion of it is about being a middle-aged woman,” said Summerskill in an interview with “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes. “If you’re a lesbian and you’re going to be talking about identity and that community, of course, it’s political. But not too political to not have a good time, obviously.”

“From Fairly Vocal to Varifocal” has two performances at Avondale Towne Cinema. The first is Friday, Feb. 2, and the second is Feb. 10. Both shows are at 8 p.m.
