Jackson has already retired from the Clayton County schools, where she worked for 30 years. She was a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and an assistant superintendent. During her tenure as interim superintendent, Jackson helped guide the district through some accreditation mandates.

Vickie Gavalus, a Clayton County Schools spokesperson, says Jackson brought stability to the district.

“In terms of her performance, I think one of the outstanding things, besides the SACS mandates, was the fact that she implemented the district’s own police force,” Gavalus says.

Gavalus says the district received thousands of surveys praising Jackson’s leadership.

The board is still hammering out the terms of Jackson’s 3-year contract. A vote is scheduled for  June 23.
