Closer Look: A Nation Engaged Special Broadcast

Note: On Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. WABE’s daily news magazine “Closer Look” joined NPR member stations across the country for “A Nation Engaged,” an initiative seeking to spark conversations that matter. Hosts Rose Scott and Jim Burress moderated a discussion at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library that focused on three hot-button topics: health care, immigration and policing. Joining the discussion were experts, previous guests of the program and the community.

  • 1:00: Rose Scott moderates a panel with guests Cindy Zeldin, executive director of Georgians for a Healthy Future, Illya Davis, philosophy and political theory professor at Morehouse College,          Atlanta Police Department Chief Erika Shields, and David Schaefer, director of advocacy for the Atlanta-based Latin American Association;
  • 29:21: Jim Burress moderates a panel with guests Jake Evans, executive vice president of the Atlanta Young Republicans, Tracee McDaniel, longtime LGBT activist and now a member of the Atlanta Citizen Review Board, Mijha Godfrey, a mother who is concerned about health care costs for her special needs child, and Ashley Rivas-Triana, DACA student.
