Shag’s label, Madison Records, brought in a producer from Los Angeles to work with her on the new project. Shag says the inspiration for the songs came from her reflections on relationships.

“I wrote these songs in the last few years about the personal things I’ve gone through in relationships, and realizing ‘Wow. I really need to detach myself from these people who are no longer serving me in a positive way,’ ” said Shag. “But it’s hard when you’re so attached to your phone and Instagram — these people are everywhere, you just can’t get away.”

Shag says she doesn’t like to label her sound or choose a specific music genre — she lists pop, funk and soul as some of her musical influences.

Shag is currently working on a “B-side” version of her “Satellites” EP as well as a full-length album and says music will always be a part of her life.

“Since I was 11, I decided to pursue music,” said Shag. “I’ve been through a lot in my journey, but most importantly I just focus on the music. Music is everything to me.”
