Coalition Requests Emergency Meeting With Gov. Kemp

The GA Coalition 2 Save Lives is requesting an emergency meeting with Gov. Brian Kemp to discuss ways to lessen the spread of COVID-19.

A coalition of leaders who represent a growing list of local and national organizations have penned a letter to Gov. Brian Kemp.

The GA Coalition 2 Save Lives is requesting an emergency meeting with Kemp to discuss ways to lessen the spread of COVID-19.

According to the letter, the coalition is asking the governor to implement life-saving measures to protect the lives of minorities, the elderly and people who are incarcerated.

On Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look,” on behalf of the GA Coalition 2 Save Lives, Attorney Mawuli Davis told the show’s host, Rose Scott, African Americans in Georgia are disproportionately affected by the coronavirus and something must be done to address the disparity.

“We have to really take a different approach, a more intense approach around the protection of life,” said Davis.

During the conversation, Davis said the coalition is also asking for masks and hand sanitizer in public spaces and for all businesses where people are gathered in close contact with one another.

“The medical data and scientific research don’t support an opening up of Georgia the way the governor has already done so far,” Davis explained.
