The Outside Story

The Outside Story stars Brian Tyree Henry in his first-ever role as a big-screen lead character. In the film Henry plays Charles Young a documentary editor, coming off of a breakup of his longtime girlfriend.

The film begins with Young getting locked out of his apartment, forcing him to try and figure out a way to get back inside and off of the streets of Brooklyn. Through the film, Young meets a wealth of different people, neighbors that he has never talked to before, cops who love giving out parking tickets, and a surprisingly philosophical food delivery man.

At its heart, the film is about the power of community and the importance of self-discovery and forgiveness. Writer and Director Casimir Nozkowski joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to talk about the film and its themes.
