Concert ‘Montage For Martin’ Honors King’s Legacy Through Music

Peachtree Church is presenting a concert work, “Montage For Martin: A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” this weekend.

The piece is written for the chorus, soloists, narrator, and orchestra. The inspiration for the piece came from King’s words, scripture, and the work of poet Rev. Ja Jahannes.

Composer Stephen Newby, a professor at Seattle Pacific University, is the artist-in-residence at Peachtree Church, where Mary Hoffman is the director of the music ministry. They stopped by “City Lights” to discuss the upcoming concert with host Lois Reitzes.

Newby began by explaining how “Montage for Martin” came to Atlanta.

“Montage For Martin: A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” will be performed this Sunday at 5 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Peachtree Presbyterian.
