DeKalb County has started a nationwide search for an ambulance provider.

It comes at a time when there have been ongoing problems with the current provider because of long wait times for ambulances.

For months, some DeKalb County residents raised concerns over the current provider: American Medical Response.

They included complaints of slow response times.

The county has had a nine-minute goal. But, the average wait time for an ambulance to come to a city like Stonecrest — which is in South DeKalb — was more than 13 minutes.

Now, the county is looking to replace its current provider.

Under the new contract, the new ambulance service must respond to high-priority calls within 11 minutes and 59 seconds.
