DeKalb Sheriff Suspends Himself, Fights Probe Into His Arrest
DeKalb County Sheriff Jeffrey Mann announced on Wednesday he will suspend himself for a week following his arrest earlier this month on public indecency charges.
Multiple Atlanta news outlets are reporting that Mann issued a memo to DeKalb Sheriff’s Office employees saying that he was “disciplining myself for ‘conduct unbecoming’ ” but that ”I will continue to vigorously defend myself as it relates to the charges.”
Mann said in his memo the self-imposed punishment begins Saturday and continues through June 4.
He was arrested on May 6 for allegedly exposing himself in Piedmont Park, and also was charged with obstruction by Atlanta Police, who said he ran from the scene.
Mann and his attorney also are trying to stop an investigation into his arrest ordered by Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, who appointed a three-personal panel to conduct the inquiry.
