Democrats to Make Unseating Ralph Hudgens a Priority

The leader of Georgia’s Democratic Party says the party will make it a priority next year to unseat state Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens.
Hudgens made national news when, speaking about the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, he compared having a pre-existing medical condition to having a car wreck and then trying to get auto insurance.
In a recent interview with WABE’s Denis O’Hayer, Hudgens said he used a bad analogy and waved off his previous comments as irrelevant, telling O’Hayer, “What I say really doesn’t have any impact on a federally-facilitated exchange operating in Georgia that is not working.”
Georgia Democratic Party Chairman DuBose Porter says Hudgens’ statements about Obamacare are reason enough to make unseating him a priority. “This is a race that we feel like we will very aggressively go after, because he is so wrong,” said Porter. “Our job is to let people know how he’s conducted himself, where he really is on this issue, and give a better alternative.”Audio of the story as broadcast.
So far, only one Democrat has announced intentions to run against Hudgens: Elizabeth Johnson, an insurance agent from Statesboro. Prospective candidates have until early May to qualify.
