The dog days of summer are here and what better way to represent what our four-legged friends mean to us and our families than with a celebration of all things dogs than Doggy Con?
The event is coming to Woodruff Park on Aug. 18. From 9 a.m. to noon. Dog owners and pet enthusiasts will meet at the main lawn of the centrally-located greenspace to listen to music, enjoy refreshments, and most importantly participate alongside their dogs in the parade and costume contest.
“Doggy Con is bringing pup culture to WoodRuff Bark,” said Central Atlanta Progress, Inc. Vice President of Marketing Wilma Sothern jokingly. “This will be a unique opportunity to strut your stuff in your best cosplay costumes for a chance to win fabulous prizes and eternal WoodRuff Bark glory.”
The prizes for the costume contest, beginning at 11 a.m., have been donated by local businesses and event holders; Big Daddy Biscuits, Dragon Con, The Ellis Hotel, Jazzy Pawz by Andrea, The Whole Dog Market, Ruff Day Bandanas and Pop Paracording, and will be awarded to winners for Best in Show, Best Doggy/Owner “Con-bo” and Best Cosplay Costume.
Registration for the Doggy Con costume contest is available via Eventbrite for $10, with all funds going to support Woodruff Park. The contest will be judged by representatives from both Tiny Doors Atlanta, an art project based in the city, and the Joystick Gamebar, a local venue that specializes in having classic arcade games available for their patrons.
The event is inspired by Atlanta’s popular Dragon Con, which takes place over Labor Day weekend.
Along with the festivities event goers can patronize various local venders that, along with the companies that provided the prizes, will include King of Pups, Wild Pic Art Publishing, Mag-nificent, the Puppy Pals Ap and Sweet Treats.
Parade registration is free and can be completed via Eventbrite as well. The parade will begin at 10 a.m., with bib pickup starting at 9 a.m.
The Woodruff park main lawn is located at 91 Peachtree Street SW.
