The office of Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp says it hasn’t received a lawsuit filed against it Monday seeking to throw out the results of the June 20 6th Congressional District runoff won by Republican Karen Handel.

The lawsuit contends the state’s touchscreen voting system has severe security problems. Marilyn Marks, executive director of the Coalition for Good Governance and the organizing plaintiff, claims Kemp sat on his hands.

“Computer scientists wrote to Secretary Kemp and told him in very serious terms that he needed to understand that the system is now compromised and should not be used for Georgia’s elections. He ignored it,” Marks said.

Marks says Kemp should have called for the use of paper ballots, even though Marks’ group lost a lawsuit about that very issue, with the ruling coming just days before the runoff.

This latest lawsuit calls for a review of the state’s election system and a redo of the 6th District balloting, even though Handel has already been sworn into office.

The lawsuit also seeks to have Kemp prohibit the use of the voting machines in November’s municipal elections.
