  • 13:48: After serving on the bench for 29 years, Justice Robert Benham is currently the longest-serving member of the Georgia Supreme Court. However, recently, Justice Benham announced plans to retire and that he will not seek re-election next year. On Monday, Rose sat down with Justice Benham in his chambers for a conversation looking back on his career. Justice Benham, who was the first African American justice to serve on the Georgia Supreme Court, reflects on moving back to his hometown of Cartersville after graduating law school and the state of the country’s judicial system today, compared to when he began practicing law.
  • 39:04: Genealogy company Ancestry.com issued an apology last month after airing a commercial that many said romanticized slavery. The ad, which depicted a white man proposing to a black woman and asking her to “escape to the North” in a time period that appeared to be set in the 1800s, received swift backlash. Ancestry.com isn’t the only company that has received criticism for racist advertising. Dan Granger, founder and CEO of ad agency Oxford Road, joins Closer Look to talk about ad strategy.
