0:00: Georgia is 5th in the nation when it comes to women owned-businesses, and over the last few years Georgia has become the stop state for Latinas starting their own businesses. There are, however, still challenges and economic development is just one of many topics discussed at this year’s Latina Empowerment Conference, which takes place this weekend at the Infinite Energy Center in Gwinnett County and is presented by the Latin American Association (LAA). The free conference will bring together more than 1200 exhibitors, companies, and women from the surrounding Latina community. We learn more from Monica Cucalon, Latina economic empowerment manager for the LAA and also Elisa Molina, who has participated in the organization’s Latina women economic development programs. 20:57: In August of 2017, Rick Wilkerson was a Nashville-based composer who was traveling back and forth to Atlanta to take advantage of the city’s music scene. We profiled his journey as part of our Summer Indie Music series. Now, almost two years later, Wilkerson has officially made the move to Atlanta. We catch up with Wilkerson to learn about why he hopes his move to Atlanta can help him reach more audiences for his music and about his upcoming performance at the Vinyl at Center Stage.
40:03: Closer Look’s graduation series continues with Joanelle Polk, a graduating senior at Clark Atlanta University. After graduation, Polk will attend Yale University School of Drama to pursue a master of fine arts degree in stage management. She will be one of four students accepted into the 2019-2020 incoming class for her MFA degree.
