Tuesday on “Closer Look with Rose Scott”:

Today is a special edition of Closer Look as we revisit conversations with people who have turned their passion for helping others into a career or non-profit.

  • 0:00: Ponce City Market announced a collaboration with Atlanta-based sustainable surplus food management platform Goodr. Designed to reduce food waste and provide hunger relief in local communities, Goodr’s logistics technology aims to allow participating businesses to donate unused food to local organizations in need. We hear more from Goodr’s CEO, Jasmine Crowe.
  • 13:56: We continue our look at Goodr with two restaurateurs in Ponce City Market who are using the program to cut down on food waste in their own restaurants. We talk with Linton Hopkins of Hop’s Chicken, and Geoff Melkonian of Farm To Ladle.
  • 30:19: In 2016, Closer Look profiled the local nonprofit “Purposity”. Its name derives from the core belief that “humanity finds purpose through generosity” — Purposity.  The organization works with school systems and non-profits in local communities to find out the needs in a specific community; then, through email, it helps to spread the word to individuals near those in need who are willing to help. We learn more from the founder and CEO of Purposity, Blake Canterbury.
  • 44:58: At the edge of Tucker and Stone Mountain, Friends of Disabled Adults and Children, or FODAC, has a 65,000-square-foot facility, where it runs all of its operations. That includes storage and a refurbishing workshop — where they clean and repair durable medical equipment — as well as their home goods thrift store, and administrative offices. President and CEO of FODAC Chris Brand gave producer Emilia Brock a tour of the facility.
