Friday on “Closer Look with Rose Scott”:

  • 0:00: All summer we’ve featured the stories of Atlanta’s indie artists and bands, and now we look at the people working behind the scenes – from managers to producers. We hear from Kara Hammond, a local indie artist/band manager; Posta, a local hip-hop producer who works with independent hip-hop artists; and Jamal Ahmad, producer, manager and member of Atlanta-based band, The Dangerfeel Newbies.
  • 24:55: A program in Stone Mountain helps educate and teach literacy to refugee children. Part of that education includes music. We hear from a group of kids playing drums and singing songs from their home countries.

  • 41:48: Nikki Speake is a singer and songwriter from Dadeville, Alabama who started writing dark country numbers at the age of 16. Since moving to Atlanta, she has played in a number of local bands, and currently plays bass in Shantih Shantih and is one of the vocalists and songwriters in Midnight Larks. But her own band, known as Nikki & the Phantom Callers, is what she calls a “super group” of Atlanta musicians, featuring Anna Kramer as bass and backing vocals, lead guitarist Aaron Mason, and Russell Owens on drums. The band joins us for an interview and live in-studio performance.

Closer Look is produced by Candace Wheeler, Emilia Brock and Trevor Young.
