Friday on “Closer Look with Rose Scott”:

  • 0:00: Rose gives a news brief about a new poll from WSB TV and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, showing Republican Brian Kemp and Democrat Stacey Abrams at a statistical tie leading up to November’s gubernatorial race. Kemp received 45.3 percent of the support while 44.9 percent of those polled support Abrams. There is a 3.1 percent margin of error. As part of the poll, respondents also identified jobs/the economy and healthcare as the most important factors in their decision in the race for Governor.
  • In other news, the Gwinnett Board of Directors approved a contract yesterday with Gwinnett County to expand transit in that region. The agreement would extend bus, rail, and Mobility services into Gwinnett. It would also immediately allow MARTA to assume control of six local bus routes and five express routes. Now, voters in Gwinnett County will need to approve the expansion in a referendum scheduled for March 2019.
  • 2:27: Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms signed an executive order yesterday directing the Atlanta City Detention Center to stop accepting detainees of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The order also directs Atlanta’s corrections chief to formally request that ICE transfer all detainees as soon as possible. Mayor Bottoms joins us in studio to discuss the executive order and the future of the city jail.

  • 37:06: Our Closer Look Summer Indie Music Series continues with YANG, an R&B and soul musician. She was born in India and moved to Atlanta at the age of seven. It was after moving that she was introduced to music, especially hip hop and R&B. That led her to launch her own musical career. YANG joins us in studio for an interview and live performance with her band, comprised of Benjamin Mathew, Winston Forrest, and Javaun Mundle.

Closer Look is produced by Candace Wheeler, Emilia Brock and Trevor Young.
