Thursday on “Closer Look with Rose Scott”:

  • Today’s special edition of “Closer Look” focuses on Thanksgiving preparations and managing stress over the holidays.
  • 0:00: Rose gives a news brief about how legal claims continue to impact Georgia’s gubernatorial race. Both candidates, Republican Brian Kemp and Democrat Stacey Abrams, are declaring a legal win in a federal judge’s split decision issued late yesterday. In his ruling, U.S. District Judge Steve Jones stated that any absentee ballots with wrong or missing birth dates must be counted. The ruling also states that the Secretary of State’s office has to include those ballots in its final tally when it certifies the results from all of Georgia’s 159 counties. The ruling is a response to a lawsuit brought by the Abrams campaign. But, Judge Jones did not agree to all of Abrams’ requests; for example, requiring elections officials to count provisional ballots that were cast in the wrong county. Due to a previous legal ruling, Georgia election officials cannot certify the election results until tomorrow at 5 p.m.
  • In other news, it’s going to be a cold night here in Atlanta. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City is issuing a freeze warning for north and parts of central Georgia tonight. The warning goes into effect at 11 p.m., lasting until 8 a.m., during which temperatures may range from the upper 20s to lower 30s. And a reminder as temperatures drop below freezing tonight, be sure to protect your pets — and your water pipes!
  • 2:28: Thanksgiving is now one week away, and a lot of home chefs are already beginning to prepare. Chef Jennifer Booker and award-winning mixologist Tiffanie Barriere give us tips on preparing for the holiday meal.
  • 24:00: The holidays are here, but for many, this time of year can be a source of stress. We discuss methods for managing mental health with Celeste Meyer, a licensed professional counselor.
