Thursday on “Closer Look with Rose Scott”:

  • 0:00: Rose gives a news brief on the 33 sex trafficking arrests made in Atlanta this week. In a press briefing in Atlanta yesterday, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen gave some details on the arrests saying the Homelands Security is conducting “proactive human trafficking enforcement operations” and has rescued four victims. In related news, the NFL’s Chief Security Officer Cathy Lanier said there were no known security threats to the big game, which is expected to attract thousands of people for the largest sporting event of the year.
  • 1:40: The John F. Kennedy Park, located in Atlanta’s historic Westside neighborhood, will undergo major renovations thanks to $2.4 million in funding from major sponsors including the NFL foundation, the Atlanta Super Bowl Host Committee and the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. According to the foundation, each year a grant is awarded from the NFL to help improve the surrounding communities of the Super Bowl host city. All this week, we’re focusing on this development in the Westside, as well on the communities in these historic neighborhoods. As new development envelops these communities, will legacy residents be part of the future? What we’ve learned from all of these conversations is the importance of listening to the residents and seeking their input.. We’ll talk about all of this, and more, with owner of the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United, Arthur Blank.
  • 28:27: Rose took a trip to one of the Westside’s most recent developments: the YMCA’s Leadership and Learning Center. Atlanta’s oldest nonprofit will soon move its headquarters to a brand new, 55,000 square foot facility. Leaders the YMCA say they will focus on educating Atlanta’s youth, training YMCA employees and serving the needs of the surrounding community.
