DESCRIPTION:Join WABE for a virtual screening of the short film\, What the Storms Taught Us\, and a conversation with filmmaker John Wheatley on the impact of hurricanes Maria and Irma on the USVI educational system\, as well as progress made since the film was made. \nPanelists include: \nJohn Wheatley\, Filmmaker\nDr. Dionne Wells-Hedrington\, USVI Education Commissioner\nDalton George\, USVI 10th Grade Student \nWABE was selected by Firelight Media to provide mentorship and guidance to local filmmaker\, John Wheatley\, in support of this film that examines the state of public schools in the U.S. Virgin Islands 7 years after back-to-back Category 5 Hurricanes Maria and Irma made landfall. Through interviews with local officials\, educators\, and students\, the film outlines the daily challenges and crumbling infrastructure that students and educators face while billions of dollars in federal aid to rebuild remains out of reach. \nRegister HERE
