Every Word Needs To Count ─ Anthony D’Amato On Songwriting And Shipwrecks

Singer-songwriter Anthony D’Amato started his career with a guitar and a single microphone, capturing his music in his room, as many young songwriters have done for ages. But his most recent album — 2014’s “The Shipwreck from the Shore” — found him collaborating with a number of musicians and recording in an 18th-century farmhouse, a far cry from his college dorm room.

D’Amato was in town for a performance at Eddie’s Attic, and before he headed off to soundcheck, he stopped by our studios for a conversation with WABE’s Myke Johns about the importance of lyrics, how collaboration has affected his music, and getting schooled — literally — in songwriting by a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet.
