A national group is urging Georgia’s Republican governor to veto legislation allowing guns on college campuses.
Everytown for Gun Safety is a group backed by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The group says it will spend $25,000 on ads to air in metro Atlanta from Thursday through Monday.
The bill allows licensed weapons owners to carry concealed handguns on public college campuses. Georgia requires people to be 21 to receive a license.
The ad highlights opposition by campus law enforcement officials and says guns, alcohol and students “don’t mix.”
Gov. Nathan Deal hasn’t said whether he’ll sign the measure. Deal has said he’s concerned about weapons being allowed in day care centers on campuses, in disciplinary hearings and in faculty offices. Deal has until May 3 to decide.
