Finding Holiday Festivities Through A Southern Rock Classic

Southern rock band Alabama released their holiday hit “Christmas in Dixie” as a single in 1982. More than 30 years later, it still provides guidance on where to find holiday celebrations happening around the South … with a little help from editor of Southbound magazine, Kevin Benefield.
On this segment in “City Lights,” Benefield uses the lyrics from Alabama’s song to offer up celebrations like the Spelman-Morehouse Christmas Carol Concert and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum’s recreation of the 1980 White House Christmas Tree.
Events outside of Atlanta Benefield suggests include Speedway Christmas at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina, Carols by Candlelight in Jackson, Mississippi and Christmas at Graceland, where Elvis fans can celebrate the season and the King in lights.
