Atlanta’s former procurement chief is scheduled to report to federal prison Wednesday. Adam Smith will serve time for his role in the city hall corruption scandal.

Smith was Atlanta’s chief procurement officer for nearly twenty-five years until he was fired in January 2017. Nine months later he pleaded guilty to accepting bribes from former city contractors between 2015 and 2017. Earlier this year, he was sentenced to 27 months in prison.

Two former contractors had already been sentenced for paying out bribes to the city. Another former city employee, Mitzi Bickers, was indicted earlier this month.

Smith made secret recordings to help the government with its investigation and got a reduced sentence of two-years, three months.

The Atlanta U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed he will serve that sentence at the Federal Medical Facility in Butner, N.C. Spokeswoman Pam Jackson would not detail why he will go to that facility, which is reserved for male inmates with special medical needs.
