Fulton Commissioners Hold Turner Field Listening Session
Fulton County Commissioners will listen to people’s thoughts about the future of the area surrounding Turner Field Monday night, but whether their ideas can influence the stadium’s sale is unclear.
The Atlanta-Fulton County Recreation Authority Board oversees Turner Field.
It recently set terms for bids to buy the stadium, but some neighbors think the process is moving too fast.
Fulton County Commission Chair John Eaves wants to hear from the people. He says the bidding terms could be changed based on community concerns.
“Certainly there will be an opportunity for the concerns to be relayed so that they can be heard by the larger recreation authority board, and I hope that they will also advocate,” he said.
It’s unclear though, whether that advocacy will go anywhere.
Eaves only controls three seats or one-third of the authority board. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed chooses the six remaining members.
Fulton County Commissioners Marvin Arrington and Bob Ellis will be at the listening session. They were both appointed to the authority’s board by Eaves.
The community meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at the Martin Street Church of God in southeast Atlanta.
