Fulton County Commissioner Abdur-Rahman Defends Her Vote Not To Fire Elections Director
A Fulton County commissioner who voted against the firing of Richard Barron, the county’s elections director, says she believes the decision to remove Barron from office is a coup and that she hopes he can keep his job.
“It gave me pause that all of a sudden, he’s the problem, he has to go,” said District 6 Commissioner Khadijah Abdur-Rahman on Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look” while reflecting on the Fulton County Board of Registrations and Elections’ recent vote to remove Barron from his post.
Abdur-Rahman, one of three county commissioners who recently voted for Barron to keep his job, says she investigated and there are no grounds to terminate Barron.
“I don’t have a problem with Richard Barron, and even more, I don’t have a problem with him being replaced if he needs to be,” explained Abdur-Rahman.
During the virtual conversation, Abdur-Rahman told show host Rose Scott there was no proven voter fraud in Fulton County, Barron operated smooth and safe elections in November and January and that he secured grant funding to increase drop boxes in the county.
Abdur-Rahman also suggested that Republicans may have handpicked the candidate who could potentially take over as elections director if Barron is terminated.
“I don’t know any other way than to say this was voter supersession at the county level,” said Abdur-Rahman.
