The City of Atlanta has a similar ordinance that went into effect last year.

Some Fulton County commissioners want decriminalization of possession of marijuana for less than an ounce county-wide.

But commissioners can mandate that only in the unincorporated part of the county, which is just the Fulton Industrial District.

“I think uniformity is good from a government side but I also think it’s good from a consumer or resident, citizen side because it helps balance expectations,” said Commissioner Marvin Arrington.

Fulton commissioners are still drafting the ordinance. It would reduce the penalty for possession of small amounts of pot to a $75 fine with no jail time. The City of Atlanta has a similar ordinance that went into effect last year.

Last month, DeKalb County also announced it wants to decriminalize marijuana too.
