Fulton County’s Central Library In Downtown Offers ‘Library On The Lawn’

Public libraries have taken on an unexpected role as a refuge for people who do not have a stable home or access to computers.

When Fulton County Public Library System’s Central Library in Downtown Atlanta closed for renovation, Community Outreach Librarian, Amanda Densmore found a way to continue services to the thousands of people who use the library each month: By taking the library to Woodruff Park.

“Library on the Lawn” is an outdoor computer lab offering park patrons free laptop and internet access. Densmore and Marketing Manager, Claudia Strange joined City Lights’ host Lois Reitzes to discuss the efforts their doing in order to serve the community during the library’s renovation.

“Library on the Lawn” takes place Monday through Wednesday every week from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
