The Georgia Democratic Party says Donald Trump's recent comments call for fast, firm condemnation.

Georgia Democrats are calling out state Republicans for not immediately denouncing presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump’s commentary on an Indiana judge.

It’s been a particularly tough back and forth week for U.S. Senator David Perdue.

Perdue has by now called on Trump to apologize for his comments accusing a federal judge of bias. Last week he very publicly endorsed the candidate. He’s also set to host a Trump fundraiser, along with Gov. Nathan Deal, next week.

The fundraiser announcement came within hours of news that U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan said Trump’s claim about the judge was “the textbook definition of a racist comment.”

Michael Smith, communications director with the Georgia Democratic Party, says Georgia Republicans aren’t taking a strong enough stance.

“They have had plenty of time to come to the same conclusion that other Republicans, including Speaker Paul Ryan said. He said these comments were racist,” Smith said.

Deal did not respond to requests for comment by deadline.
